CONNECT YOUR KIDS TO THE WORLD OF GIVING
There are numerous websites that support online giving, so fundraising & giving back has never been easier!
Please see below for links to websites that can serve as platforms for the fundraising efforts of your For-Purpose Kids.
* The websites below are not affiliated or endorsed by For-Purpose Kids in any way, they're simply sites we've researched and have found to be very user-friendly.
GoFundMe – The funds raised using GoFundMe go directly to you (with a valid bank account) and it's your responsibility of to allocate the money to the designated recipient. Processing and payment fees do apply.
The instructions for setting up a GoFundMe account are simple and straightforward so you and your For-Purpose Kid can start raising money almost immediately. There are also numerous tips on the site to help you launch a successful campaign.
Crowdrise – The funds raised through Crowdrise go directly to the selected charity so it's a very easy and transparent process. There are fees associated with running a campaign, but your donors can choose to pay for them if they choose. Detailed information is listed on the website about these terms and the instructions on starting a fundraising campaign are outlined in a concise way.
If you're unsure of the organization you'd like to support, you can review the various charities on the Crowdrise site listed by category (such as Animal, Environment, Human, etc.)
Charity Navigator’s Giving Basket – Charity Navigator is a good platform to use if you and your For-Purpose Kid are holding an in- person fundraiser and want to donate the money raised directly to the charity you've chosen. In addition, the individual profile on Charity Navigator allows you to donate to multiple charities at a time, so if you're a Champion for several For-Purpose Kids with different areas of interest, this would be a great set-up to utilize. Fees do apply.
GiveForward – GiveForward is a different type of giving site as it doesn't focus solely on raising money for those in need, but allows you to set up campaigns to help support with food, house cleaning, transportation needs, childcare or even positive words of encouragement.
The site has a fantastic introductory video and setting up a fundraising page is easy and straight forward. As with the other online platforms, fees do apply.
In the For-Purpose Kids Toolkit, The Giving Book and our Resource Guides discuss that giving is not only achieved by raising money but also by donating clothes, toys and other household items that may no longer be needed by the For-Purpose Kid and/ or their family. Some families we know donate one old toy for every new one they receive- what a great idea! See below for the link to a website which will help you and your For-Purpose Kids find charities in your area that will accept donations of goods:
Donation Town – Donation Town is an online resource that helps to locate charities and organizations in your area that will accept various goods such as clothes, toys, books, electronics and almost any item you can think of — and they'll also help to schedule for a pick-up of your donated items- making the process even easier. Simply type in your zip code to find charities accepting donations near you.
HOW TO SELECT A RESPONSIBLE CHARITY
If you and your For-Purpose Kid are unsure of which charitable organization youlike to 'd support and only have an area of interest such as communities in need, animals or the environment, there are several resources online to help you select a responsible and transparent charity. Similarly, if you discover a charity that you would like to support, it's important to do your due diligence to ensure that the funds they raise are allocated in the most effective ways possible to achieve their stated mission. While most charities are set up with the best of intentions, you and your For-Purpose Kid want to make sure your donations are used responsibly. See below for two organizations that evaluate and rate a large number of charities around the world.
Charity Navigator – Search charities by category or type in the charity you'd like to support to see the most recent evaluation of their work and their related rating.
Charity Watch – Research charities to evaluate their rating on a scale from A to F or review top charities by category.
